Feliz
año nuevo!!!!! AHHHHH it's 2018 what is this? I can't believe it. So to sum up
our New Year’s eve, we ate with some Ecuadorians, some Brazilians, and we ended
the night eating lots of grapes👍 it was a really great New Year's Eve, after church we went to a
members house and they are just incredible. They all shared their conversion
stories and the spirit was so strong the whole time. I love listening to
everyone's conversion story, God has such a unique plan for every single person.
The family from Brazil speaks English and it felt like America for a second.
That was weird. Haha they were really great, we ate dinner at their house and
had to be home by 11:30. Once in our piso (apartment) we got all of the grapes
together so we could eat them at midnight. So they have a tradition here where
you have to eat 12 grapes, one grape every second until midnight. It was
hilarious, trying to scream and celebrate with your mouth full of grapes is not
too easy.
So with it being a new year, I've been really thinking about the goals I need to make and what I can do to really better myself this year. It's definitely a lot different to think about when you're on a mission. One goal I set for this year, is to not go a day without following the prompting of the spirit. As members we are so blessed to have the gift of the Holy Ghost, and with this gift we can be guided to help and lift other people. Sometimes it's hard to recognize the sprit with everything going on in our lives, but we have the spirit as an incredible blessing and it is so important to not take it for granted.
As I've been thinking back on this year, a scripture came to my mind.
Ether 12:27, it says "And if men come unto me I will show unto them their weakness. I give unto men weakness that they may be humble; and my grace is sufficient for all men that humble themselves before me; for if they humble themselves before me, and have faith in me, then will I make weak things become strong unto them."
When I started my mission, wow it was not easy, and let's be honest it still isn't. But that's the gift isn't it? These challenges really help us to grow and to learn. As we become closer to our Savior, he shows us our weaknesses and gives us strength to be able develop these weaknesses into our strengths. Something I've really seen, as I've given my all everyday, despite my weaknesses, God has been there giving me the strength everyday that I need to do His work. It's incredible how our weaknesses help us to become closer to our savior, I know I could not do this work without Him and because of this, I have really come to know that we need Him everyday of our lives. I love my Savior and I am so grateful for the love that He has for us, He loves us enough to give us challenges and trials so that we can learn to rely on Him and feel his love daily in our lives.
I am so excited for this new year and I can't wait to see what lies ahead for all of us!
Love you all! Hermana Bangerter
